The silenced dance floor:
"Soundproof" is an installation about electronic dance music’s history and origin. Unlike its electronic music cousin from the engineering and academia world, electronic dance music genres are often first invented and enjoyed by the oppressed group of people, people who do not fit the “social norms” at the time.
The dance floor was a place for these people to express and enjoy themselves, but as soon as they left the dance floor, left the trance created by the music, they have to follow the social norms again. In “Soundproof”, the music is muted, leaves the hollow feels masked by the music on a dance floor obvious.
During the show, the performers will perform DJ-like movements with turntables and synthesizers, but no sound will be played in the space.
